The Alchemist {paulo coelho}

A little late to the party here, but I finally read Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist. The book follows the journey of a young Andalusian shepherd boy (the novel’s protagonist), Santiago, and his earnest quest to pursue his Personal Legend as he travels across Spain and Africa.  I found it to be both an entertaining and spiritual read as it conveys an inspiring story that led me to ask myself as I was reading, “what is my Personal Legend?… what is my true purpose in life?… what have I always wanted/dream to accomplish” or what’s stopping me from achieving that?” I don’t know how many times I’ve asked myself those questions.

While I hesitate to call this novel life-changing or phenomenal as how it has been frequently praised in the media, it was rather enjoyable reading the relatable obstacles and hardships {ie. fear, doubt, etc.} Santiago encounters in his long journey and the inspiring, motivating messages Coelho weaves throughout his story.
